Top Three Most AVN Award-Winningest Porn Flicks Ever

In 1959, the MGM epic Ben-Hur set an Oscar record by collecting 11 Academy Awards for a single year. Later, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King matched the mark with big Oscar nights of their own. These achievements put this trio of movies into a unique place in Hollywood history. For porn’s own de-facto Oscars, the annual AVN Awards, 11 has also been a magical number. Since the awards debuted in 1984, only three porn movies have won 11 awards in a single year. Here they are:

Pirates 2: Stagnetti’s Revenge (2008)
* 11 AVN Award wins in 2009

A hotly anticipated sequel in 2008, Pirates 2 did not disappoint audiences, critics, or award watchers. The original Pirates was no AVN slouch, winning a whopping 10 awards in 2006. By the time part two rolled around, Digital Playground’s publicity machine was in full swing. (Indeed, one of the movie’s wins was for marketing.) Pirates 2 seemed destined for awards plunder, and it collected mightily across all major categories in January 2010. Though its wins in physical media categories like DVD extras are less relevant to 2023 consumers, the victories in production areas like makeup, special effects, and art direction point to the movie’s abiding quality. The award-winning sex scene, starring fan fave Jesse Jane, is also still a scorching watch some 16 years later.

Shock (1996)
11 AVN Award wins in 1997

Like Pirates 2Shock was a sequel that marched to success that matched its storied predecessor. In this case, the movie was a follow-up to the previous year’s big winner, LatexShock, sometimes subtitled Latex 2, had an equally ambitious visual style, leading to a very similar roster of award wins. One notable addition to the lineup was Most Outrageous Sex Scene (scene two), featuring Shayla LaVeaux.

Latex (1995)
11 AVN Award wins in 1996

Michael Ninn‘s background as a music video director made him the perfect choice for prestige porn projects. (One year prior to Latex, he’d helmed Sex — yes, just Sex — which netted nine AVN Awards). Latex demonstrates the stylistic flair he honed in his music career while presenting some unique visuals all its own. Thus it’s not surprise that many of Latex‘s 11 awards came in areas like editing, videography, and art direction. The movie’s dystopian plot is mostly an excuse for Ninn’s bizarre, compulsively watchable scenarios, including a final sequence with plenty of cum-covered latex.
